Saw #PixelsMovie Spoilers Ahead

Saw another movie, this time the Adam Sandler flick "Pixels."  So, you know what's coming:

Back in 1982, Sam Brenner & Will Copper are big video game nerds.  They go to the 1982 World Video Game Championships where the videogames will be shipped into outer space in a time capsule.  Sam and Will befriends Ludlow Lamonsoff, a very nerdy and insecure person who love Lady Lisa from the fictional game Dojo Quest.  Sam does will in the tournament, but loses in the championship to Eddie Plant in the final game Donkey Kong.  (I'll get back to that later.)

Later, Sam's a tech installer, and Will's the President of the US.  Unannounced, aliens attack Guam using pixelated video game characters.  They abduct a soldier at an US base.  Meanwhile, Sam goes to the house of Violet Van Patten, a divorcee with her son Patton.  Both get called to the White House (Violet is a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Military).  They find out that Galaga attack the based, but when Sam tried to help, he is immediately tossed from the White House.

While driving away, Sam finds Ludlow, and we discovers that Ludlow has become a paranoid conspiracy theory believer.  But he figured out what was going on; aliens found the time capsule, thought that the video games were a declaration of war, and have declared a challenge on the Earth.  They left messages in video, that Earth has three lives, they lost 1 life, if they loose three lives, they are finished, and that the next attack will be in India.  Unfortunately, the team is late, while India is devastated by Arkanoid, and another person is abducted.  So, Earth is down 2-0.

Thanks to Violet, they found out that the video game characters react to strong light signals.  At the US military, they develop light guns to fight off the enemies, while Sam & Ludlow train soldiers to fight the enemy.  The next battle will be in London in Hyde Park.  The game is Centipede.  The fight didn't start out well.  The soldiers are just not good against the Centipede game.  So President Will tells the lead soldier to let the geeks handle the fight, and they win the bout.  So it's 2-1 bad guys.  But they need help.  So President Will goes to a penitentiary to get Eddie Plant out of jail to assist in Sam & Ludlow's fight against the aliens.  The next battle is in New York against Pac Man.  So to get the 4th Ghost against Pac Man, they get the creator Toru Iwatani (no, it's not really the creator) to help.  Toru tries to talk to his creation, but gets his hand and part of his arm bitten off.  The three barely got to Pac Man, with Eddie doing so me questionable speed boosts.

While celebrating the win, the aliens announced that the players cheated and they will decimate the planet soon.  In the commotion, Patton notices a pair of sunglasses belonging to Eddie that has codes to it.  Eddie admits that he cheated even back in the 1982 championship.  In the meantime, Patton is captured by the aliens.  Oh, and Q-Bert joins the group as a "trophy."  Q-Bert tells them that the planet that he comes from was once a peaceful planet before the time capsule came.

The following day, the aliens attack with a bunch of various video game characters attack Washington, D.C.  Violet, Sam Will & Q-Bert will try to make it to the mother ship, while Ludlow will stay in D.C. to stay off the characters.  The quartet reaches the mother ship, and learn that they will get another chance against the leader, while Ludlow faces off the love of his life, Lady Lisa, and makes the virtual version side with her.  Eddie decides to be a good guy and fights with Ludlow.  Inside the mother ship, the game is Donkey Kong, and Sam has a rough time, until Patton tells Sam that Eddie cheated, then he beats the great ape and defeated the aliens.  All the characters are destroyed, but also Lady Lisa is gone, crushing Ludlow.

At the White House, Sam, Eddie, Ludlow, and Violet are treated as heroes.  Eddie is forced to admit that Sam is the hero.  Q-Bert is transformed into Lady Lisa.  *eww*  Will announce a peace treaty with the aliens.  And a year later, Will and Lady Lisa has 5 Q-Bert children.  How charming.



Well, I want to be and say "this movie kicks ; it's ungodly stupid, but it kicks " but I have to settle with very good.  The cheating part ruins part of the movie with me.  I know, it's a mean to move the movie, but there's better way to move it.  How about a real Final round to decide the world?  Also, why was Lady Lisa fully realized while the rest are, well, pixelized?  Also, why did Q-Bert changed to Lady Lisa at the end?  But it has a great visual effects, and as an Adam Sandler movie, it's not a bad way to kill time.  You should watch it. It's better than the 17% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Nothing new on the trailers front.  I may watch "Shaun the Sheep" next weekend.
